My name is Grandmaster Brian Oakes 9th degree black belt. I have over 40 years of experience in the martial arts. Initially I trained in Shotokan Karate, Akido and Judo receiving my first Black Belt in American Kenpo in 1991 from Master Thomas Georgion in San Diego. Along with my ongoing Kenpo training I've crossed trained in three different Bruce Lee Jeet Kune Do schools which also taught Kail stick and knife, Mauy Thai and boxing classes. Also, I've spent a small fortune in seminars, videos and books in my quest to develop a new modern Kenpo system. A system combining classical Ed Parker Kenpo forms, sets and principles to new techniques and training sets combining information from several styles and always geared to modern street fighting. Despite my creating a new evolutionary Kenpo. I remain very traditional. I recognize that I'm blessed to be standing the shoulders of great martial art masters.
Over the years I've seen multiple students use Martial Art training as means to transform their lives using ancient and modern martial philosophy to their daily lives. My classes are safe, respectful and very honest. My students accomplish over just a few years to become effective Martial Art practitioners with a broad understanding of the arts, their history and traditions.
Modern Studio
Padded floors, heavy bag, speed bag, wooden dummies, a wall of mirrors and several training aids. We share our school with our sister school Red Tiger Kung Fu which trains on different days. Both of the schools train together in seminars, join together in parties and martial art events creating a big martial art family.
Our Philosophy
I come to you with the martial art known as Kenpo. The law of the fist and the open hand. My skills include fighting with and without weapons. Based on my character and training I chose to avoid all physical altercations. However, should I be forced to defend myself, my family or friends, my principals or honor so be it. For I am a warrior, and I am obligated to stand against evil. A warrior trained in Kenpo the law of the fist and the open hand.
All classes begin with a brief discussion of traditional martial philosophy. We believe in combining old school knowledge with modern combat to create a lifetime martial lifestyle improving our lives in all aspects.

Oakes Family Kenpo

Classical Ed Parker Kenpo. Kids will also in this class. A great place for families to train together
Adults only 2 hour class. first class techiques. 2nd drills, sets and form

Ed Parker forms which consist of all the classical techniques with modern new techniques with concepts from American Boxing, Bruce Lee's Jeet Ku do, Muay Thai, Krav Maga and modern weapon training.

Cross Training Class
Select techniques and drills from Progressive Kenpo for practitioners with prior training. 5 levels of hand-to-hand training with certifications. 1st hour of technique training, 2nd hour sets and drills, Certification only no forms or mandatory uniforms

Family Kenpo

A good basic self-defense class for children which also helps with character development. Benefits include better school grades, developed concentration skills, higher self-esteem and confidence, improved sports performance, self-respect, increased politeness, reduced anxiety and behavior issues. Classes have to be fun and structured to ensure the children enjoy the experience and want to continue to come back.
